UK Rehabilitation HousesABOUT US
The staff and our way of working
Frenchay houses are staffed 24 hours a day. We operate with 5 full time and 4 part time counselling staff, present Monday to Friday working days, and a team of support staff, who work weekends and nights (with a counsellor ‘on call.’) all staff are trained to a high standard, adhere to B.A.C.P ethical practice and are professionally supervised, offer a wealth of differing orientations and backgrounds, as well as expertise in the common area of counselling/supporting clients with substance misuse issues. The persons in control and the social services registered manager hold ultimate responsibility for provision of statements of practice.
The counselling team facilitate group work and individual counselling as well as family conferences/couple work where deemed appropriate.
Staff care about our clients so as to build both a working alliance and a real trusting relationship. We do not allow clients to persist blindly in self defeating, manipulative, aggressive or passive behaviours. Our positive regard for the individual remains the basis for our understanding of patterns of psychological, emotional and behavioural responses having been adapted in accordance with the individual’s perception of best surviving their past environments.
Just as group work is central to the client process at Frenchay, so our team approach is paramount in our staffing structure. Decisions and policies are made by the team collectively and after full discussion and consideration. Responsibility lies ultimately with the registered managers. Staff are happy to discuss therapeutic orientation and working practice in more detail if required.

FOR CLIENTS
How to book an assessment After reading through the website and discussing with your referrer, the next steps are as follows:-
1, Telephone Frenchay Mews 01934 624330 or Frenchay House 01934 625520 to book an appointment to be assessed for a place. The following information will be useful when booking your assessment:- your date of birth; what detox arrangements (if any) have been arranged and whether funding by your referring agency has been applied for or granted
2, The assessment will last between 1-1 ½ hours. In that time you will be shown around the building and have the opportunity to chat to our current residents. One of the counsellors will then complete the assessment form with you, discuss in detail the programme with you and answer any questions you may have. (NB it is important that you are aware that we ask you not to drink or use drugs on the day of your assessment and we will have to postpone the assessment if you do).
3, After your assessment the residential contract will be given to you to take away and read. This is the contract you will sign on admission so it is important you read it carefully and ask if there is anything you don’t understand. If you, Frenchay staff and your referrer feel that Frenchay is suitable for you, then an admission date will be arranged. We will ask you to keep in contact with us (a specific telephone contact day will be given). This will ensure your admission date is held. NB Failure o keep the telephone contact arrangements may result in you losing your place.
4, Prior to admission we as you to have to have done a week dry/clean either through going into hospital detox, or doing a community detox. This you need to discuss and arrange with your referrer. You will also need to come off all mood altering substances prior to admission i.e sleeping tablets, anti-depressants etc. if you do drink or use during the week prior to admission then we will need to defer your admission date.
5, Prior to admission, we will need written confirmation regarding the funding of your treatment. We will speak to your referrers about this.
6, Please also read the section in your contract on the first page entitled ‘prior to admission’.
7, We generally take admission on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and ask you to arrive between 12pm-2pm.
RESIDENTS AGREEMENT
When residents arrive, they are asked to agree and sign the residential contract, which includes:
To Abstain from any mood altering substances on or off the premises.
Refrain from acting out or implying any form of threat or violence to other residents, members of staff or property.
Focus on themselves and avoid exclusive or sexual relationships during treatment at Frenchay.
Not to smoke in unauthorised areas of the house.
To adhere to house boundaries as set out in the contract.

FOR REFERRERS
Frenchay Rehabilitation houses receive referrals from Social Services, probation officers, CARAT managers, non statutory organisations and individuals
We aim to work closely with referrers of residents to ensure care plan objectives and through care needs are met, and we encourage periodic face to face reviews with client referrer and Frenchay staff. Because our approach requires a high level of commitment and self responsibility from our clients, dual diagnosis clients need to be considered very carefully, usually requiring reports etc. from other perpetrators of sexual abuse or people with recent arson convictions appropriate.
We require that the applicant is clean and dry or using detox medication only for this assessment. Assessment is arranged by telephone (preferably by the client) and takes place at one of the Frenchay houses. This affords mutual assessment, i.e. for the client to assess the suitability of Frenchay for them, as well as vice versa. At the assessment, the clients history, is completed by a councillor and the client is shown the building and sometimes offered an opportunity to talk with existing clients. A contract is given to applicants to take away and read if both Frenchay staff and the applicant feel that Frenchay is a suitable service then an admission date is offered and a contact contract is drawn up. The applicant is required to keep the agreed telephone contact to ensure the place offered is kept available. Written confirmation of funding is required for each client prior to admission, as a written care plan. The care plan will be incorporated into a formal ongoing appraisal system for each client. Referrers may view these with the clients permission.
Whilst we normally expect our clients to be fully detoxed upon admission, in some circumstances we can oversee the end of a community detox, under GP supervision, to ensure seamless service. We also recognise that some clients may need ongoing medication, and we will consider this on an individual basis, we require that the referrer makes a provisional plan for travel funding and accommodation the event of a premature discharge of the client. Upon completion of the treatment a discharge summary is sent to the organisation of the referrer. In the later part of the treatment clients liaise with both referrer and their Frenchay key worker in establishing that move on needs are met regarding accommodation, support etc.
We can negotiate how fees are met and we ask that if the resident is to make their personal contribution to the service through benefits that the amount is available for confirmation in the Community Care assessment (with Social Services) to avoid confusion upon admission. This is particularly important when the client is married and on benefits or employed.
We look forward to working with you.
