To collaborate with institutions including but not limited to the Department of Human Services, educational institutions, and the Judicial System to foster awareness and develop greater understanding of the devastating consequences of untreated addiction.
Treatment Program
The treatment program will be based on the twelve step program; intensive outpatient will focus on Steps 1-3 of AA/NA. Clients will learn steps 1-3 and apply them in daily life. They will learn the importance of taking responsibility for behavior and consequences. Self-esteem, grief issues and trauma will be addressed. If a client appears to have serious mental health problems, they will be referred elsewhere for mental health therapy.
Extended outpatient will continue the work begun in Intensive outpatient and the client will learn about Steps 4 and 5. If they appear ready to do a thorough 4th Step, they will complete a4th and 5th Step. The client will address how to manage cravings and learn about relapse prevention.

History of New Horizon Recovery Center
New Horizons was established in October 2001 byMs. Sarah (Sally) Sturges, the immediate goal was to assist persons afflicted with addiction to mood altering substances. The director sought the licensure needed for Substance Abuse Evaluation from the State of Iowa. Prior to licensure, persons who called for an evaluation were referred to Dr. William Beyerink a long time friend and professional peer. Dr. Beyerink became the directors Clinical Advisor until his untimely death in 2002.
Initially growth was slow. Advertisement was primarily by word of mouth, and proceeds were next to nothing. However as the community became aware of New Horizons, referrals were numerous. Relocation was necessary the second year as growth continued.
