NEW RIVER COVE, BELIZE

New River Cove is a dual diagnosis facility specializing in helping people achieve and maintain recovery from alcoholism and other addictions. Inspired by ancient Mayan culture and blended with modern architecture, New River Cove was created for the treatment of addictions. Located on 27 acres in the tropical beauty of Belize, New River Cove has an experienced medical, clinical and conditioning staff, as well as excellent facilities, to treat the Mind, Body and Spirit of those in need. Our Central American location affords us the opportunity to offer cost effective treatment to our clients. The beautiful grounds provide a setting that promotes spiritual tranquility. Our highly qualified clinical staff are all licensed and/or certified in the United States. We have a working ranch with a stable of world class horses that are incorporated therapeutically into our treatment program. Our onsite 20, 000 square foot fitness complex which incorporates an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool and therapeutic massage helps each client to achieve functional fitness. We help empower those suffering from addiction to take positive control of their lives.

New River Cove's mission is to educate and provide positive lifestyle choices for clients with alcoholism and other addictive disorders. Our multimedia conference center provides ample space for resident education and staff development and training. We provide a quiet, private, natural environment that enhances spiritual growth and allows us the opportunity to partner with you to restore physical and emotional health.

New River Cove blends traditional 12 step treatment with holistic and experiential program components. Individualized treatment plans are developed with each client to achieve the goal of mental, emotional, spiritual and physical harmony. Length of stay is flexible based on each clients very individualized needs.

We provide medically supervised detoxification when indicated. We also strongly encourage the participation of our clients loved ones in our Family Program. New River Coves treatment program allows a length of stay of up to 90 days to ensure that all clients have the time needed to meet their individualized treatment goals.

Recovery for Life

Inspired by ancient Mayan culture and blended with modern architecture, New River Cove was created for the treatment of alcoholism and drug addictions. New River Cove is located at the edge of the jungle on the lush green banks of New River in a tropical oasis in Belize.

Because of New River Cove’s geographical seclusion, residents are assured the ultimate in privacy in a comfortable, safe, natural environment. New River Cove is an international drug treatment center with an advisory board and staff from various ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds. A professional, well-trained administrative and clinical staff follow the American Standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

New River Cove emphasizes the whole person—the Mind/Body/Spirit pyramid. An individualized treatment plan for chemical dependence is developed for each resident by educated, licensed and experienced therapists and counselors. Medical and nursing services are under the leadership of a licensed physician and nurse. All residents receive a fitness profile, nutritional analysis, and an individualized life plan to improve their health and physical condition. A state-of-the-art, 20,000 square foot fitness complex includes the latest equipment, diagnostic tests, programs, and technology. Specialized programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of the residents. For example, sports enhancement programs are available for elite athletes who must maintain their physical condition as chemical dependency treatment progresses.

Quiet, private meditation areas have been designed to complete the Mind/Body/Spirit pyramid. To explore and enhance the inner person, New River Cove encourages a resident to thoughtfully evaluate past, present, and future lifestyle, behaviors, beliefs, commitments, relationships, and values—all those components that form the mosaic of an individual.

Our Program

New River Cove blends traditional 12-step based treatment with progressive and holistic program components. A systemic approach is used to assess and define the clinical, physical, and nutritional goals for each resident. Individual treatment plans are developed to help each resident achieve mental, emotional, and physical harmony.

Located on the edge of the rain forest, New River Cove provides a setting that creates spiritual tranquility which is the basis for long-term healing and recovery. On-site laboratory services and a 20,000 square foot fitness complex help each resident achieve functional fitness. New River Cove is also a working ranch and has a stable with world-class horses. The horses are used in equine therapy and extracurricular activities. A multi-media conference center provides ample room for resident's education and staff development.

New River Cove offers both primary and extended-care programs that range from twenty-eight days to lengths as recommended by the attending physician. The extended-care program is designed to aid the resident's successful transition from a therapeutic community to their return home. Prior to discharge, a plan is developed for each resident and referrals may be made to local treatment providers.

Traveling to Belize

Belize City is just a two-hour flight from the mainland USA. Residents will be met at the airport by New River Cove staff upon arrival in Belize City. New River Cove is about a 45 minute drive from the airport. The exact location of New River Cove will be provided only to residents and immediate family so that we may protect the privacy of our clients.

A passport is required for citizens of the United States to visit Belize. If you do not have a passport, we can provide information for accelerated application. You are encouraged to apply for a passport immediately—it is always good to have one in any event. The normal time it takes to receive a passport is 6 weeks, but you can pay extra for expedited service and receive it in 7-10 days. To get a passport you will need proof of citizenship and two passport photos. Visitors are permitted to stay in Belize for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days.

Note: US and Canadian citizens, nationals of Caricom countries and of the European Community member nations do not require visas.

Belize is located on the Caribbean coast south of Cancun. A former British colony, Belize has a long history of stability, democracy and tranquility unmatched in the region. The official language of Belize is English.

To the east, Belize is graced with the Caribbean Sea and 174 miles of unbroken barrier reef. Snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, water-skiing, windsurfing, boat races and swimming are favorite activities. In the interior, Belize has an unspoiled world of lush tropical rain forests with intriguing and diverse animal and plant populations, as well as limestone caves, scenic rivers and Maya temples and monuments. With more than 600 Maya cities, Belize is the center of the ancient Maya world.
