Description
EnglandWestern Counselling Services, situated in the seaside town of Weston super Mare, was established in 1984 exclusively to treat addictive disorders. Using the traditional 12Step methodology it is internationally renowned for its structured, abstinence based programmes of care.
Western Counselling is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) for male and female clients aged 17-64yrs. An active member of the European Association for the Treatment of Addiction (EATA) we have been externally audited and found to be compliant with QuADS (Quality in Alcohol and Drugs Services) and in November 2005 were accredited with Investors in People (IiP), a quality standard that acknowledges the training and support for the staff team and the inclusivity of the management approach.
The programme of care is challenging and boundaried with emphasis placed on personal integrity and honesty from which to build the foundations for long term recovery from addiction.
Clients are treated from all over the world, for both primary and secondary care. Referrals are required to undertake as assessment prior to admission which explores social history, addiction, medical, psychiatric and forensic history. The assessment takes approximately thirty minutes and can be undertaken via the telephone or in person if a visit is arranged. An admission care plan is then compiled and used as the basis for initial consultation, this is updated within the first four weeks of treatment by the individual's counsellor and subsequently reviewed four weekly, throughout treatment.
All referrals undertake a medical assessment on admission, with our doctors who prescribe as necessary. Medicated withdrawals are available for those clients using substances prior to their admission.
Western Counselling has a total of six residential properties, three allocated to primary care and three to secondary care. In primary care, two of the houses are joined, with access between the two properties. This property has 20 beds allocated as nine female and eleven male beds. Another all male residence sleeps twelve.
In secondary care, treatment is undertaken within the individual properties, which are single sex, however clients do attend the Centre for particular Groups and activities. There are nine designated female beds, fourteen male beds in one property and ten in another.
All properties are registered individually with the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
Aftercare is available for all clients who complete the programme, free of charge. Attendance is advised initially weekly or fortnightly however it is at the discretion of the individual and their particular needs and is available for as many years as is required.
